Mega job fair to be held at Varuchukkudi on March 6, 7

KARAIKAL: 

             A mega job fair 2010 would be jointly organised by the district administration and the Karaikal Employment Exchange at the Government Polytechnic College at Varuchukkudi here on March 6 and 7. Unemployed persons, who have registered their names with the Karaikal Employment Exchange, could participate in the fair.

                Over 32 organisations from Chennai, Puducherry, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Karaikal would recruit persons for about 8,000 vacancies. The participating organisations are being co-ordinated by Team Lease Private Limited, Bangalore. Recruitment of graduates, in both technical and non-technical streams, would be held on March 7, recruitment of those with qualifications of Tenth, Plus Two, ITI, and Diploma would be held on March 6. Woman held while trying to supply liquor to Cuddalore prison inmate

CUDDALORE: 

           A woman who tried to surreptitiously supply a bottle of IMFL to an inmate of the Cuddalore Central Prison was arrested on Wednesday.

          Police said K. Mallika of Kirumambakkam in Puducherry went to the prison to meet Selvakumar, an accused in an ‘attempt to murder' case.She hid the liquor bottle on her person and handed over the bottle to the accused. The warder, who was on duty, caught hold of the woman and handed her over to the police.

200 more vehicles for ‘108' ambulance fleet soon

CUDDALORE: 

                 As the demand for the “108” ambulance service has gone up significantly, the number of vehicles will be increased from 385 to 445 soon. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has made a budgetary provision for adding 200 more ambulances to the fleet, said M.R.K. Panneerselvam, Health Minister. He was speaking at a function held at Pudhuchathiram near here for the inauguration of a sub-registrar's office, on Wednesday. Mr. Panneerselvam said that after the advent of the “108” ambulance service, awareness of its utility had increased. So far, it had rendered service to over 3.21 lakh people, besides helping in 81,000 child births. For even minor ailments or accidents, people were calling the number.

                  The Minister further said that there was overwhelming response to the Kalaignar Health Insurance Scheme for Life-Saving Treatments. Mr. Panneerselvam said that under the Young Children Vision Programme, a total of 3,624 children had undergone surgery and over 1.58 lakh children given corrective glasses. He pointed out that to enable easy registration, the sub-registrar's office was established in Nallur, Orathur and Pudhuchathiram within a short period. It would benefit residents of 20 villages. Collector P. Seetharaman said that hi-tech communication facility had made the “108” ambulance service quite instantaneous and popular.
