CUDDALORE:
As a fall-out of the road accident that claimed the lives of four girl students and inflicted injuries to 17 other students, District Collector P.Seetharaman has emphasised the need for incorporating the blood groups in the identity cards of the students.
The Collector told The Hindu that he had directed Chief Educational Officer S.Amudhavalli and Joint Director (Health Services) B.Kamalakannan to make immediate arrangements for finding out the blood groups of students and mentioning the same in their ID cards.
They could do so by sending the para-medical staff to every school. Mr Seetharaman said that at the time of exigencies as of now, when a large number of students would have to be treated at the same time, this measure would help the medical fraternity to render speedy services. The staff in accident and trauma wards in government hospitals had been instructed to keep the list of blood donors, particularly those with rare blood groups, ready at hand, along with their contact numbers.
