Dope-pushers, beware of sniffer dogs in Cuddalore Central Jail

CUDDALORE:

Prisons in Tamil Nadu will soon deploy sniffer dogs to prevent smuggling of drugs, mobile phones, explosives and other banned items into the jails by inmates and visitors.

The department has decided to provide 18 sniffer dogs to nine prisons – Puzhal I and Puzhal II in Chennai, Cuddalore, Vellore, Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruchy, Madurai and Palayamkottai. Each prison will get two sniffer dogs — one to detect explosives and other to detect drugs. Eight dogs are being trained at the Chennai police dog squad while another 10 are being trained in Coimbatore along with the handlers from respective prisons. The dogs will be handed over to the prison authorities across the state by the end of the year.
