Candidates writing the examination in Cuddalore on Sunday.
CUDDALORE:
Over 84,940 candidates appeared for the examinations for Village Administrative Officer posts, conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, in Cuddalore district on Sunday.
According to Cuddalore District Revenue Officer C.K. Rajendran, a total of 44,210 candidates, both men and women, took the examinations in 59 educational institutions at centres such as Cuddalore, Neyveli, Chidambaram and Vriddhachalam. As many as 159 chief investigators were monitoring the examination process in all these centres. The examination went on from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Questions were of objective type and the examination was for 300 marks.
Though the TNPSC had fixed the minimum qualification for the post as SSLC pass, even candidates with postgraduate degrees took the examination. Persons in the 21-40 age group were eligible for the examination and some women came to the centres with their infants. As the candidates were not allowed to take their mobile phones inside the examination halls, they had to entrust the handsets either with those who accompanied them or nearby shopkeepers.
For those candidates who had lost their hall tickets, special arrangements were made through the district administration to obtain duplicate copies. The State Transport Corporation operated special bus services to the examination centres. Police security was provided at the centres.
