Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Thursday arrested an official in Cuddalore on charges of taking bribe to process an application pertaining to a welfare scheme.
According to a press release, N. Kaliaperumal, a coolie of Mettu Street, Chindambaram, lodged a complaint with the DVAC police that the Rural Welfare Officer (Grama Sevika) Malliga demanded Rs. 1,000 bribe for processing his application seeking financial assistance for his daughter under the ‘Moovalur Ramamritham Thirumana Nala Thittam'. A case was registered against the official.
A special team formed to investigate the complaint laid a trap and arrested Malliga after she took the bribe money at the Kumaratchi Panchayat Union office. She was produced in a special court in Cuddalore and remanded in judicial custody. In another case, the DVAC police arrested a Local Fund Audit Inspector in Erode for allegedly taking Rs. 1 lakh bribe from an employee of Kasipalayam Municipality.
The Sanitary Supervisor of Kasipalayam Municipality Viswanathan lodged a complaint that the Local Fund Audit Inspector Manoharan demanded Rs. 3.5 lakh bribe for giving a trouble-free audit report for the Municipality. He insisted that a sum of Rs. 1 lakh be given to him as advance. Investigators laid a trap and arrested Manoharan soon after he took the money from Viswanathan at the Chithode bus stop, the release added.
