Heavy rains in Cuddalore District

Heavy rains lashed Puducherry and nearby coastal areas In Cuddalore on Thursday. According to Met department, the rains caused by easterly “waves” were expected to continue till the weekend. The formation of a trough of low pressure near Kanyakumari was expected to add to the intensity of the rains in the next 48 hours.

The downpour ensured that many roads across the town were inundated. To make matters worse, slabs covering recently desilted drains were yet to be replaced. The condition of most of the inner roads was pathetic as there was no proper maintenance for quite some time. Meanwhile, heavy and persistent rains that began on Wednesday night lashed Cuddalore district all through Thursday. Because of the continuous rainfall, students and office-goers suffered a lot as vehicle movement was slowed down in many places. Widespread rainfall was reported across the region.

About 25,000 fishermen did not venture into sea, for the fourth day in a row, as heavy wind made fishing impossible. Due to the scarcity, the price of fish has shot up by 30 per cent.
