CUDDALORE:
Officials of the Railways and Police Department were on their toes on Wednesday soon after information trickled in that a goods train crashed into a van at the Kadavacheri unmanned level-crossing, near Chidambaram, killing one person and injuring four others.
Security personnel and the local people gathered there in large numbers soon and the Railway officials then revealed that it was a mock drill to check the alertness of railway staff and the response time of other supporting services. Railway safety consultant Parthiban told presspersons here that the drill was carried out to create awareness of how to react during exigencies among officials. It was also intended to educate the general public and motorists on the caution to be exercised at unmanned level-crossings.
