People will teach Jayalalithaa a proper lesson and vote against her autocratic rule not only in the Tiruchi by-poll but also in the local body elections, former Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said here on Wednesday. Talking to reporters here after meeting K. N. Nehru and K. Ponmudy now lodged in Cuddalore Central Prison, Mr. Stalin charged the State Election Commission with acting as a handmaid of the AIADMK. If the State Election Commission adopted any arbitrary practice, the DMK would seek legal redress to ensure fair conduct of the elections. He was accompanied by former Health Minister M.R.K. Pannerselvam, former MLA Ela.Pugazhendi and Chennai Mayor R. Subramanian.

Another warrant

The Tiruchi police served another arrest warrant on Mr. Nehru on Wednesday. It has been handed over to Jail Superintendent G. Shanmugasundaram. The new case was booked on the basis of a complaint filed by P. Karunanidhi of Kollampalayam in Erode district alleging that Mr. Nehru and nine others had grabbed 10,000 sq.ft. near the Tiruchi airport in 2007. Mr. Nehru is in jail in a case related to the land grab for construction of the party office in Tiruchi. About the second arrest warrant, the Jail Superintendent clarified that if Mr. Nehru secured bail in the earlier case, the jail authorities had to release him immediately. Now, with the second warrant pending against him, he would be produced before the relevant court and not enlarged on bail.
