Director of Tamilnadu Spastics Society (Chennai) Madhumathi Achuthan has called upon the Sneha Special School, functioning under the aegis of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation, to enroll its students as members of the National Trust for Special Children.
She was speaking on the occasion of National Day of the Mentally Challenged on the NLC Training Complex, Neyveli. She said that the Union Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment had set up the national trust for the welfare of persons with autism, cerebral palsy and mental retardation. The trust was giving scholarship under the Gnan Prabha scheme and interest subsidy for self-employment scheme Uddayam Prabha. It was also extending health insurance scheme, “Niramaya,” up to Rs. 1 lakh a year and shelter for special children under the “Gharaunda” scheme. Ms. Achuthan also said that the Trust was organising camps for providing gainful employment and marketing their products under the “Arunim” scheme. She congratulated the NLC for its support to the Sneha school for mentally challenged children run by the Sneha Opportunity Services.
Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NLC A.R. Ansari said that besides giving love and affection, parents of special children should also impart education to them. President of Sneha Opportunity Services Kishwar Sultana Ansari outlined activities of the special school such as teaching yoga, carpentry, cooking and gardening.
