Honour for boy scouts from Cuddalore



Students of St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Manjakuppam, Cuddalore, who bagged the President's award.

CUDDALORE: 

          Sixteen students of St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Manjakuppam, have bagged the President's awards for “Excellence in scouting” for the academic year 2009-2010.

          They have won the laurels after over six years of rigorous training and community service. They competed for the honour with their counterparts drawn from 3,500 schools across the country. They were given certificates at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi recently.

           According to J. Selvanathan and I. Arokkiasamy, scout masters, the team had already won the Governor's awards, a pre-requisite for getting the acme of honour. The team comprises Plus-Two students C.R. Adhityan, B. Selvamuthumaran, K. Kishore Kumar, V. Mohandas, N. Sabarinathan, R. Hariprasad, D. Arunkumar, A. Sivabalan, N. Parthiban, S. Gowtham, S. Sivaramakrishnan, A. Ashok Kumar, D. Purushothaman, S.V. Adheedhan, V.Yaswanth and S. Bhuvanesh.

             The scout masters said that the team had got widespread acclaim from the elected representatives of local bodies for their community service, particularly in spreading adult literacy. The President's awards would help the boy scouts in their educational career and in finding jobs. Honouring the team at a function held on the school premises here on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Ashwin Kotnis exhorted other students to emulate the team. Former Principal of St Joseph's College Fr. R. Ratchagar and Principal Fr I. Ratchagar and school principal Fr. Agnel were present.
