Chief Minister M. Karuannidhi will launch a new health scheme for infants on Saturday.
Under the scheme, newborn babies to infants up to one year can undergo free treatment worth Rs. 1 lakh, according to M.R.K. Panneerselvam, Health Minister. He was speaking at the inauguration of a medical shop of Saravanabhava Cooperative Wholesale Supermarket on Beach Road here on Thursday. Later, the Minister inaugurated two Primary Health Centres at Vellakarai and Ayipuram, each built at a cost of Rs. 21.79 lakh.
The Minister also inaugurated a sub-centre of Animal Husbandry Department at Ayan Ramapuram, and, anganwadis at Echangadu and Sedarpalayam, and a part-time ration shop at Chinna Pillaiyarmedu. At Chinna Kaaraikadu, the Minister attended the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of 15 additional classrooms to be built at a cost of Rs. 1.03 crore in the village school. The new wing would be ready in six months. District Revenue Officer C. Rajendran, Joint Director (Health) Kamalakannan, Deputy Director (Health) R. Meera and others participated.
