Unemployed history graduates to boycott polls

CUDDALORE:

Unemployed history graduates and postgraduates have decided to boycott the Assembly elections.

President of the Tamil Nadu History Graduates and Postgraduates' Right to Life Association M. Murugan said that over 30,000 candidates had been waiting for about 20 years for government appointments. The Association had been taking up the cause of unemployed history graduates and postgraduates for many years, but in vain. Such a situation had arisen because teachers handling subjects such as English, mathematics and science in government schools were allowed to conduct history classes.

Another detrimental factor was the policy of giving cent per cent promotion to secondary grade teachers. Mr. Murugan said that the secondary grade teachers, comparatively younger, used to take away the chances of history graduates awaiting job prospects.
