The Neyveli Lignite Corporation has created new facilities, including a digital library and a parking lot at the Main Bazaar area, to make the Neyveli Township a model town.
After inaugurating these facilities at various places in the township on Monday NLC Chairman-cum-Managing Director A.R.Ansari told the presspersons that the digital library would be open to the employees, their wards as well as to the residents in the peripheral areas. Separate section had been created for women to have privacy.
Mr. Ansari further said that the library had adopted the “optimizer storage system” that was quite different from the conventional system. For, it would provide for adjustable racks to accommodate more number of books in a safe manner. He said that new parking lot set up at the Main Bazaar near Gandhi Mandapam could accommodate 100 cars and 400 two-wheelers. This would avert traffic congestion in the commercial hub and would make shopping a pleasant experience.
The parking lot had a well-laid out drainage system and greenery. A model public convenience near the parking lot, consisting of bathrooms, dressing rooms and toilets, too had been established. The Chairman stated that the animal birth control centre, put up on the veterinary hospital campus, could handle 60 dogs a day. The centre would adopt the “Trap neuter release method,” a fast-track technique to sterilize the dogs adopted for the first time in Cuddalore district. NLC Directors B. Surender Mohan, K. Sekar, R. Kandasamy and J. Mahil Selvan, and Chief General Manager (Township administration) C.Senthamil Selvan were present.
