Maintaining vigil round the clock for Tamilnadu Assembly Election 2011

Election control room functions at the Collector's camp office in Cuddalore.

CUDDALORE:

The election control room set up in the Collector's camp office here has been monitoring poll-related activities in the district. Functioning round the clock, the control room acts as a nerve centre for gathering and disseminating information connected to polls.
People can contact the room at 04142-220029, 230651 with extension numbers 213, 214, 219 and 247. It is equipped with two television sets to constantly monitor broadcast of political messages and advertisements in the electronic media.

Through this, the expenditure incurred by political outfits and candidates on advertisements can be accounted for. In fact, the District Election Officer has sought advertisement tariff from all print and electronic media to calculate the likely amount being spent on advertisements by political parties and their candidates. The control room is also equipped with nine computers, one each for every Assembly segment. Any complaint about poll violation such as open or stealthy distribution of money or any other kind of incentive to woo the voters, intimidation of voters, bringing in a large number of outsiders, surreptitious movement of any unlawful element , etc., could be passed on to the control room.

According to official sources, details of informants would be kept confidential. All complaints received would be immediately processed and sent to the authorities concerned. The control room would also coordinate the activities of expenditure flying squads, static surveillance squads, model code of conduct squads with the District Electoral Officer and the Election Commission for the smooth conduct of polls.
