Uproar over change of exam centre for +2 Board Exam

CUDDALORE:

Before the commencement of the Plus-Two public examinations, Government Girls Higher Secondary School at Chidambaram witnessed a commotion on Wednesday as parents and teachers gathered there to protest the change of venue at short notice.

They alleged that without any prior intimation, a section of students originally allotted the Chidambaram Government Girls Higher Secondary School as the examination centre were shifted to a sub-centre in the Rani Seethai Achi Higher Secondary School at Annamalai Nagar, located four km away. They came to know of the change of centre only through newspapers.

Since they faced logistics problem in reaching the sub-centre, they urged the authorities to retain the original centre. On information, District Educational Officer Bharathamani, Deputy Superintendent of Police Natarajan and Inspector of Police Subramanian reached the spot and held talks with the agitated parents and teachers. The officials told them that after notifying the sub-centre it would not be possible to effect a change.

However, they said, the parents could request the respective school management to make transport arrangements. Chief Educational Officer C.Amudhavalli told The Hindu that originally it was planned to accommodate 900 candidates in the Chidambaram Government Girls Higher Secondary School. But since the old building was demolished to raise a new structure with NABARD assistance, the school had space for only 500 candidates.

Hence, for making room for the remaining 400 candidates the department had to look for other sub-centres. When contacted, C.R. Lakshmikandhan, Correspondent of Kamaraj Matriculation Higher Secondary School, said that no formal communication was made to the school to act as a sub-centre.
