CUDDALORE:
Social Welfare Minister Selvi Ramajayam on Wednesday gave away relief materials to 31 families that lost tenements and belongings in a fire that broke out a couple of days ago.
The flames that engulfed the rows of houses on Attuthotti Street near Bhuvanagiri on Tuesday night reduced 21 thatched houses to ashes, besides damaging two ‘pucca' houses. The Minister handed over Rs. 2,000 in cash, five kg of rice, a litre of kerosene, and free dhotis and sari to the affected families. Later, the Minister called on five persons, who sustained burns and were undergoing treatment as in-patients at the Chidambaram Government Hospital. Chidambaram Revenue Divisional Officer Indumathi and tahsildar Rajendran accompanied the Minister.
