Chemplast Sanmar’s Providing Medical Assistance Where It Is Needed Most in Cuddalore District

          Chemplast Sanmar in its commitment to society initiated the standard of living of communities near its operating plants. The focus was on health centres with free prescribed medicines, medical camps offering free diagnostic tests. Chemplast Sanmar was also generous to donate funds for Hospital.
 
             Chemplast Sanmar has come up with various initiatives to improve the standard of living of communities near its operating plants, as part of its commitment to society. Education, health and water head the list of priorities.  Sanmar’s aspiration is to work with the community has inspired the Group to start health centres in remote villages where medical facilities are inadequate. Chemplast Sanmar has helped start health centres in Mettur, Karaikal and Cuddalore in villages near its plants.

         Mettur is the first place that Chemplast Sanmar chose to start it’s healthcare activities. The centres are located at Veeranur, Mottur, Thangamapuripattinam and Kunjandiyur. Chemplast provides free medical consultation and medicines to people in these camps. These healthcare centers help in medical diagnosis on a regular basis and supply free medicines to community members.  Chemplast Sanmar has enlisted the services of experienced doctors who have a passion for community service.

           In addition to regular health centres, the company also organises medical camps with specialist treatment facilities. The most recent medical camp in Mettur was conducted in partnership with the Chettinad Hospital. The medical camp screened 1,250 people from villages such as Thangamapuripattinam, Ramamurthy Nagar, Thengalvarai and Kavipuram around Mettur. The camp consisted of thirteen medical specialists in various disciplines such as General Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Diabetes, Gynecology and Pediatrics. Thirty paramedical staff from the hospital were also involved in the screening camp. Over 200 staff from Chemplast Sanmar came forward as volunteers to facilitate this massive medical exercise. Tests for blood sugar, ECG, ultrasound scans and various other diagnostic tests were conducted free of cost.

           Chemplast is also running health centres around its Cuddalore plant. These centres have made available free medical consultation and medicines throughout the year for people with health care needs. The doctors visit the village every week while simultaneously the medical camp continues offering free diagnostic tests. Chemplast Sanmar has donated 3 air conditioners for the Burns department and Rs 12 lacs for refurbishing the male surgical ward at the Cuddalore Government District HQ Hospital. The vision of serving the community around its plants and supporting their health needs with medical camps and health centers will continue in the years to come.
