Refrain from protest

CUDDALORE:

Certain political parties, trade unions and residents' associations have planned a protest rally and public meeting here for November 23 to condemn “official apathy” to the bad condition of roads in the town.

They have faulted the district administration, Cuddalore Municipality and the Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board for “sluggish progress” in the underground drainage project and the resultant difficulties faced by the residents.

Collector P. Seetharaman, meanwhile, has made an appeal to the people not to organise any protest in this connection because he had instructed the officials to speed up the work. In a statement, he said that the TWAD Board had been implementing the underground drainage project for a total distance of over 132 km covering 324 streets in the town. Of this, drainage pipe had been laid for a distance of over 122 km covering 292 streets. The remaining work on 32 streets would be completed by December 31.
