CUDDALORE:
Over 600 residents from about 10 villages blocked the Tiruchi-Chidambaram road near Kattumannarkoil for over two hours to register their protest against the bad condition of the Puthur stretch.
Residents of Neyvasal, Thorupuli, Kalikadanthan, Kothangudi and Sozhakkur used to take the Puthur road to reach Chidambaram. However, this road is in bad shape for a distance of seven km, making it difficult even for two-wheeler-riders to pass through. Even ambulances would not ply into this section. The residents alleged that the road remained in poor condition for the past 15 years. Though a representation was made to the former District Collector two years ago no effort was made to set it right. Kattumannarkoil Tahsildar Vijayalakshmi along with police officers reached the spot and pacified the protestors.
