CUDDALORE:
The Manjakuppam branch of Indian Overseas Bank distributed rice to the flood-affected people here recently.
Senior Branch Manager S. Kesavan told the reporters that having realized its social responsibility, the bank had extended the help to the people in need. The bank was also propagating the idea of savings among the people.
The bank had chosen to launch a major drive to broadbase the reach of the banking services during rainy season. Mr Kesavan further said thatthe bank had started the ‘Walk-in Bank' campaign all over the country on December 5 with the objective of meeting the people at their doorstep so as to bring them under the banking services.
The bank staff, in groups, spread out to the residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural areas to promote the banking habit among the people. Mr Kesavan said that it provided them valuable inputs from the existing customers who had little time to spare at the counters. Those who were desirous of opening bank accounts could do so immediately by filling up the forms and producing the supporting documents for name and address proof. In a single day 100 new accounts were opened through the campaign, Mr Kesavan said.
