Central Reserve Police Force personnel checking a vehicle near Cuddalore on Friday.
CUDDALORE:
Central Reserve Police Force personnel have been deployed on the Cuddalore-Puducherry boundary to carry out vehicle-checks round the clock.
All vehicles passing through Cuddalore are checked to verify whether passengers were carrying any unaccounted cash or inducements meant for wooing voters, or liquor to be served to political party cadres. Collector P. Seetharaman has directed polling officials to keep a tab on the sales turnover of all TASMAC retail outlets. If they come across any bulk purchase from any outlet, the officials should immediately inform the District Election Officer and police.
They should also keep a vigil on any feast or mass feeding at marriage or community halls. Even the number of meals served in these halls should be accounted for. Superintendent of Police Ashwin Kotnis said that a CRPF company, comprising 84 personnel, had arrived in Cuddalore and all of them had been posted at all 13 check-posts. For poll duty, over 3,500 security personnel, including 648 CRPF personnel and 340 armed police, would be posted in all nine Assembly segments.
