CUDDALORE:
Security measures would be provided to ensure the peaceful conduct of Assembly election. This includes deployment of Central para-military forces at polling stations and bringing persons with doubtful credentials under strict vigilance, according to Ashwin Kotnis, Superintendent of Police.
Mr. Kotnis told The Hindu that so far 703 such persons had been identified in Cuddalore district and they would soon be “bound over.” It meant that those who had been identified as criminals and habitual offenders would be urged to execute a bond to the effect that they would not indulge in any wrongful act that might disturb public tranquillity and breach public peace. First Information Reports would be filed against them and Section 107 of Criminal Procedure Code would be invoked in the case of those who might endanger public peace, and Section 110 of the Cr.P.C against the habitual offenders so as to haul them up before the Magistrate to execute the required bond, Mr. Kotnis said. This was also sort of preventive measure as they would be bound by the vow and also held responsible for any wrong doing.
Police observer Hariram Meean also stressed the point at a review meeting held recently by Additional Chief Electoral Officer P.Amudha here.
