Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) is set to commence short-term postgraduate diploma courses in seven super specialty branches to upgrade the skills of practising veterinarians soon, according to TANUVAS vice-chancellor R. Prabakaran.
Another major project conceptualised by the university for this year is an extensive anti-rabies campaign in the state involving different stakeholders like local bodies and department of animal husbandry. Dr. Prabakaran said new PG diploma courses would be introduced in topics such as small animal orthopaedics, veterinary ophthalmology, critical care medicine, small animal dermatology, ethno veterinary medicine, poultry feed technology and commercial poultry management.
The courses would be offered through distant education to the veterinarians. Ten students would be admitted to each course. An M. Tech course in food science would be started in the academic year 2011-12, Dr. Prabakaran said. There would be only five seats for the course.
MoU
Dr. Prabakaran said the university had recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with seven foreign universities to revamp fisheries education. Of these, three were in the United States, one each in China, Indonesia, Nepal and Bangladesh.
