CUDDALORE:
The State government has ordered an increase in pension amount from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000 a month for eight categories of beneficiaries.
As per the new direction, the monetary outgo on this score would be over Rs. 6.19 crore a month in Cuddalore district, according to P. Seetharaman, District Collector. Mr. Seetharaman said there are 61,984 beneficiaries under eight social security schemes, including the Indira Gandhi Old Age Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi Differently-abled Persons' Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi Widows' Pension Scheme, Destitute Women's Pension Scheme and also the pension scheme for poor spinsters who have attained 50 years of age. The scheme had come into force from May and the first payment would be made through cheques before June 7, he added.
