CUDDALORE: T
he orders pertaining to the re-determination of the school fee structure, recommended by Justice K.Raviraja Pandian Committee, were handed over personally by the Chief Educational Officers to the schools concerned in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts on Tuesday.
The revised fee structure for a year is as follows:
Lower Kindergarten and Upper Kindergarten – Rs.4,700;
Standards I to V – Rs.4,900;
Standards VI to VIII – Rs.5,450;
Standards IX to X – Rs.5,800;
and Standards XI to XII – Rs.7,300.
The fee structure is inclusive of annual fees of various kinds such as admission fee, library fee, maintenance and amenities fee and other recurring expenditure and development charges, excluding the fees for imparting education through technology like “smart classes,” for books, notebooks, uniforms and transportation facilities, if any.
The committee has instructed that the schools should not collect any other amount by way of fee. Any violation in this regard would be dealt with in accordance with law by the appropriate authority. The new fee structure will remain in force for the academic years from 2010-2011 to 2012-2013 or until further orders of the committee.
Meanwhile, the Consumer Federation-Tamilnadu has appealed to the State government to reject the Raviraja Pandian Committee recommendations because these were wide off the mark of the stated objectives. Moreover, the fee structures were fixed on the basis of infrastructure available in individual schools and the orders were delivered in sealed covers, thereby throwing to wind the need for transparency. The federation called for bringing into force the recommendations of Justice Govindarajan Committee.
In identical representations addressed to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and School Education Minister C.Ve.Shanmugam, executive secretary of the federation M.Nizamudeen stated that the latest recommendations would give a free hand to the schools to collect additional fees.
