CUDDALORE:
A total number of 1.29 lakh students will be screened for vision problems in Cuddalore district during the current academic year , Collector P. Seetharaman has said.
In a statement released here on Thursday, he said that last year, a total of 1.14 lakh students from Class VI to VIII were screened and 6,942 given corrective glasses free of cost under the Kalaignar Kannoli Kappom Thittam. This year, students in Class VI, IX, X, Plus-One and Plus-Two would be screened. The Government Headquarters Hospital here had been provided with modern equipment to carry out cataract surgery and other vision correction procedures, Mr. Seetharaman said. Patients who required anti-glaucoma surgery or laser treatment for retinopathy or keratoplasty would be recommended for treatment under the Kalaignar Health Scheme.
