CUDDALORE:
Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said the question of increase in compensation for loss of lives, crops and property due to the recent floods will be discussed at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
He was inspecting the flood-hit areas at Maruvai near Vadalur, about 45 km from here, on Monday . In reply to another question Mr Stalin said that besides taking stock of the extent of present damage, the meeting would also focus on permanent flood control measures. Later, the Deputy Chief Minister gave away a total solatium of Rs 20 lakh to the affected people who had assembled in a marriage hall near Kurinjipadi.
It included Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of three persons, namely R. Malathi of Thirumanikuzhi, Sarangapani of C.N.Palayam and P. Rajavel of Azhichikudi who died in rain-related incidents, Rs 5,000 each to 271 families whose huts were damaged and Rs 45,000 for cattle losses. Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy and Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam were among those who accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister.
