CUDDALORE:
The Neyveli Lignite Corporation management recently averted traffic disruption on Chennai-Kumbakonam road by plugging a breach in the banks of the Paravanar.
A statement from the NLC said that floods following heavy rain breached the banks of the Paravanar at Maruvai, near Neyveli. Soon after the people brought it to the attention of the district administration, Collector P. Seetharaman, along with NLC director (mines) B. Surender Mohan, inspected the area.
On the direction of the Collector, the NLC management deployed dozens of heavy machinery, including bulldozers and tipper-lorries, to plug the breach. After 20 hours of continuous effort, the NLC officials brought the situation under control, ensuring smooth flow of traffic on Chennai-Kumbakonam road, the statement said.
