CUDDALORE:
The Neyveli Lignite Corporation has bagged the Vishwakarma Award 2011, instituted by the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), for its achievements in the mining sector.
A statement released from the NLC said that it had got the honour for the Mine-II expansion project, estimated to cost about Rs. 2,295.95 crore. The project would increase lignite capacity from 10.5 million tonnes per annum to 15 million tonnes per annum to meet the requirements of the two units of 250 MW units each (2x250 MW) of Thermal Power Station-II expansion. The CIDC awards were meant to motivate individual and organisational contribution to the construction field, and, recognise and honour contribution in terms of better output and process to create a higher bench mark.
Union Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Ray presented the award at a function held in New Delhi on March 7 to B. Surender Mohan, NLC director (mines). On Tuesday, Mr. Mohan handed over the award to NLC Chairman-cum-Managing Director A.R.Ansari at the Corporate office in Neyveli.
