Fishermen in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts abstained from fishing on Thursday, in protest against the killings of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Fish vendors also joined the protest. The fishermen also organised protest meetings in coastal villages, condemning the killings and urging the Central and State governments to take measures to protect the lives of fishermen. Members of Tamil Nadu Meenavar Peravai blocked traffic at the Uzhavar Sandhai here for about an hour, criticising the Sri Lankan Navy. At Marakkanam in Villupuram district, fishermen blocked traffic on East Coast Road.
