Letika Saran opens DPO building in Cuddalore

DGP Letika Saran inaugurating the District Police office in Cuddalore on Monday.

CUDDALORE:

Director General of Police Letika Saran inaugurated the integrated District Police Office (DPO) complex constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.38 crore here on Monday.

After cutting the ribbon, lighting the lamp and unveiling the plaque, the DGP told the presspersons that the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation had built the new structure on 33,000 sq. ft of land. It would house the office of the Superintendent of Police, the crime branch, the special branch and the record room. It would have proper seating arrangements for the petitioners.

As the existing SP office, a colonial structure, lacked adequate space the new one had been built. Asked whether the ancient building would be retained, the DGP said that it would be left untouched. The construction work on the Thiruvarur DPO office would be completed soon. From 2002 the Police Department had undertaken the construction of the DPO offices in the districts, wherever warranted, and those DPOs having adequate space were allowed to function in the same buildings. In the same way new Commissionerates too were being built as per the need.

“Law & Order peaceful”
The DGP said that the law and order situation in the State was peaceful. As the Assembly elections were getting nearer, the security arrangements would be tightened. As many as 200 companies of the Central Para Military Forces (CPMF) would be deployed on poll duty across the State.

Sensitive polling stations

About the number of polling stations identified as sensitive, the DGP said that depending upon the ground reality the numbers would keep on changing. The process of identifying the sensitive, hyper-sensitive and critical polling stations had been initiated in coordination with the respective District Collectors, the DGP added. A high-level police officer said that since it was the election time the inaugural function was organised in a low key. District Collector P. Seetharaman, Additional DGP (L & O) K. Radhakrishnan, Inspector-General of Police (North Zone) R.C. Kudawla, Principal District Judge D. Ramabathiran, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Villupuram range) A.G.Pon.Manickavel, and Superintendents of Police Ashwin Kotnis (Cuddalore) and Xavier Dhanraj (Villupuram) participated.
