CUDDALORE:
Police personnel who are deployed on an extended beat at the time of communal conflagarations, caste clashes and other unrest often face the issue of not being able to attend to nature's call. With an increasing number of women police put on duty, the gravity of this problem gets accentuated.
Having realized the seriousness of the problem, Cuddalore District Collector P. Seetharaman has hit upon the idea of providing two mobile toilets for the police department. For the purpose, he has sanctioned Rs 1.50 lakh from his discretionary fund. Each of the mobile toilets contains an overhead water tank, a flush-out and washing facilities and can be easily wheeled to various destinations.
These two units, procured from Puducherry, have been dedicated to the police department and the Cuddalore municipality has been assigned the responsibility to maintain them. Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam inspected the mobile toilets stationed on the New Town Police Station premises on Thursday and applauded the Collector for his thoughtful action. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Villupuram range) E. Ma. Masanamuthu hailed the District Collector for having provided a facility that was of absolute necessity to the personnel.
Superintendent of Police Ashwin Kotnis said that provision of such a mobile toilet to the police force was the first of its kind in Tamil Nadu. The provision of such a new facility would relieve the personnel from botheration, the Collector said. It is felt that the facility could be moved to any place where the public gather.
