CUDDALORE:
A tripartite meeting organised by the Neyveli Lignite Corporation on the Training Complex, Neyveli, on Thursday, took stock of safety measures adopted in mines as well as health and environmental aspects.
D. Sengupta, Deputy Director-General of Mines Safety, Southern Region, Bengaluru, presided over the meeting. He appreciated the NLC for acting in accordance with safety provisions and recommendations of the tenth conference on mines safety. NLC Chairman-cum-Managing Director A.R. Ansari highlighted welfare measures implemented by the management for employees. He laid special emphasis on healthcare services made available to contract workers and their dependents.
Mr. Ansari also gave an elaborate account of the peripheral development scheme launched by the NLC for the betterment of people in the nearby areas. Mr. Sengupta released books on “Safe operating procedures,” and “Code of practices.” The meeting also reviewed the status of the recommendations of the previous tripartite meeting on mines safety. B.K. Panigrahi, Director of Mines Safety, Bengaluru, B.P. Ahuja, Director of Mines Safety, and S.K. Gangopadhyay, Deputy Director of Mines Safety, Chennai region, participated.
Apart from representatives of the Labour Progressive Front and the Pattali Thozhir Sangam, NLC directors B. Surender Mohan (Mines), R. Kandasamy (planning and projects), J. Mahil Selvan (power) and K. Sekar (finance and personnel in-charge) were present.
