Vigilance and Monitoring Committee Chairman K.S. Alagiri has appreciated the progress made in the implementation of the Central schemes in Cuddalore district.
Addressing officials here, Mr. Alagiri said that benefits had reached 87 per cent of target groups, and in certain cases up to 99 per cent of beneficiaries had received assistance. However, a lot more had to be done in water supply and sanitary aspects. He called upon officials and elected representatives to keep vigil and work in tandem to implement schemes to the satisfaction of people.
Mr. Alagiri said that a sum of Rs. 117.49 crore was sanctioned for the district for 2010-2011 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, of which Rs. 102 crore had been spent so far, completing 87 per cent of works. Under the Indira Awaz Yojana, a sum of Rs. 19 crore had been set aside for construction of houses for the poor and 99 per cent of the works was completed at a cost of Rs 18.76 crore.
A sum of Rs 8.73 crore was earmarked under the Prime Minister Village Roads, Rivers and Lakes Scheme, and of which Rs 7.09 crore was utilised for the completion of 87 per cent of the works.Under the Total Sanitation Programme, an allocation of Rs. 5.96 crore had been made but till now only Rs 1.73 crore was spen,t completing hardly 29 per cent of the works. For the rural water supply scheme, a sum of Rs. 6.65 crore was set aside and so far 65 per cent of works worth Rs 4.35 crore had been completed. Collector P. Seetharaman, Project Officer (DRDA) K.Veera Raghava Rao, and district panchayat chairperson Santhi Panchamurthy were present.
