CUDDALORE:
The compound wall of a house at M. Pudur in Arisiperiyankuppam panchayat near here has raised many eyebrows as it carries an interesting mix of graffiti including the symbols of both the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
The house falls within the jurisdiction of the Kurinjipadi Assembly constituency. One section of the wall writing appeals to the people to vote for the DMK candidate M.R.K. Panneerselvam, Health Minister, in the April 13 elections. The party symbol “Rising Sun” has been prominently displayed and also written is the name of the Arisiperiyankuppam Panchayat President K.S. Arul Nathan. Interestingly, the “Two Leaves” symbol painted in fluorescent green is also juxtaposed with the DMK symbol and carries a caption “it is our symbol” without mentioning any name. When contacted, Mr Arul Nathan said that the inhabitants of the house were staunch supporters of the DMK. However, the son-in-law of the family happens to be the follower of the AIADMK leader and hence, provision had been made to accommodate both the symbols at the same place.
A message covering both the symbols welcomes Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for laying foundation stone (recently) for a government medical college in the area. Mr Arul Nathan further said that there was full consensus on the graffiti among the family members. It signified that persons professing different political ideologies could live in unison under one roof and also declare the same to the public. The local people are also appreciative of the fact that a healthy democracy always has space for various shades of political opinions which will not be circumscribed by animosity and acrimony. Some opine that the political parties are opponents and not rivals and should bury their differences after the elections to work for the State.
