CUDDALORE:
A railway track running along the banks of the Vellar in the Killai-Parangipettai section near Chidambaram is facing the threat of erosion whenever the river is in spate. Therefore, to safeguard the track from possible flood damage, a protective wall of palmyra trunks on the banks is being erected. The State government has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 92 lakh for the purpose. Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department T. Anbalagan, who visited Cuddalore, inspected the work. He urged officials to expedite the work as the Vellar was getting augmented flow.
