CUDDALORE:
The Federation of All Residents' Welfare Associations has adopted a Dalit student Kirubavathi of Padhirikuppam near here and has undertaken to defray her educational expenses.
General secretary M. Marudhavanan told The Hindu that the Federation had adopted the girl when it learnt that though Ms. Kirubavathi's family was living in a hut without electricity connection she scored 472 marks out of 500 in the SSLC examinations by studying under the street lights. She had successfully completed Plus Two and now got admission to the B.E. (Information Technology course) in Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai. Learning about the economic backwardness of the student the Manjakuppam branch of Indian Overseas Bank had extended an educational loan to the tune of Rs 1.92 lakh to her, towards tuition fees for all the four years.
Yet, she would have to mete out the hostel expenses to the extent of Rs. 50,000 for which the Federation had come forward to give the monetary help. Mr. Marudhavanan and other office-bearers of the Federation handed over a part amount of Rs. 10,000 to her recently. Mr. Marudhavanan said that Ms. Kirubavathi was desirous of joining the Indian Administrative Service and the Federation would support her in realising her dream.
