CUDDALORE:
Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam has thanked the people and the organisations that did not participate in the bandh called by the opposition parties in support of the NLC contract workmen on Tuesday.
In a statement issued here, the Minister also thanked the district administration and the police personnel for having maintained law and order on the day. District Collector P. Seetharaman in his statement observed that the bandh did not affect normal life because the transport corporation and private operators ran their services as usual. Mr. Seetharaman noted that excepting major commercial complexes and some hotels all other shops remained open and educational institutions functioned normally. The police had detained a number of people for stone throwing, he added.
