CUDDALORE:
A public hearing was held here on Tuesday to ascertain the views of the local people about the proposal to set up a 1,800-MW private thermal power station.
Collector P. Seetharaman presided. It was stated that the SRM Energy Ltd. had proposed to set up the thermal station for which over 1,300 acres of land would have to be acquired from at least nine villages, including Poovalai, Velangipattu, Alamelumangapuram, Puduchathiram and Manikollai. Participants expressed the view that due compensation should be given to the land providers and also appropriate measures ought to be taken for protection of environment.
