The outpost at beach now sports a new look.
CUDDALORE:
The police outpost at the Silver Beach here has got a facelift, with greenery and well laid-out pathways in its environs.
Two cannons, made of brick and mortar, flank the entrance. The hexagonal structure has been given a fresh coat of paint and a golden colour government emblem placed prominently in the centre. At present, the building houses the police control room, which has been temporarily shifted from the office of the Superintendent of Police. A spiral staircase leads to the first floor, which can be used as a guest house, and an open terrace.
Superintendent of Police Ashwin Kotnis told The Hindu that the outpost would function round the clock. It was necessary to curb drinking and anti-social activities on the beach after dusk. The old outpost at the beach was damaged in the 2004 tsunami. The new structure had come up at the same spot, with financial assistance from the Rajasthan government. However, the building was sporting a dull look for want of proper maintenance. As the Silver Beach was emerging as a place of tourist attraction, the building was now refurbished.
Asked whether any marine police station would be set up there, Mr. Kotnis said it would continue to remain a police outpost, manned by police personnel.
