CUDDALORE:

District Collector P. Seetharaman inaugurated the Census at the camp office here on Wednesday. Soon after giving out the details about him as the First Citizen of the district to the Census officials, the Collector told reporters that the district had been divided into 4,334 regions for the purpose.

As many as 4,037 enumerators and 659 superintendents had been put on the job and they would collect the details from all the households. They had already undergone training in three stages in these aspects. There were 29 columns in the Census form to be filled up and there were separate columns for men, women and transgenders (aravanis). On the final day of February 28, the enumerators would collect the details of homeless people who are living on the platforms, and in railway stations and bus stands.

The Collector further said that as per the 2001 census the population of the district was 22,85,395. Moreover, the fund allocation by the governments would be based on the population in the panchayats. Therefore, the Collector has appealed to the people to extend full cooperation.

A statement from the Neyveli Lignite Corporation stated that the competent authority has designated M.Sukumar, deputy general manager (education), NLC, as the in-charge officer for planning and carrying out the Census in the Neyveli Township. N.Jothikumar, assistant chief manager (education), NLC, would be coordinating the exercise.
