A two-year post graduate course –Master of Science in Costume Design and Fashion (CDF) – has been introduced at Vivekanandha College for Women, Tiruchengode, from this academic year. Chairman of Vivekanandha Educational Institutions for Women Dr. M. Karunanidhi said that the course has been introduced based on the increasing demand from the industry for postgraduates from this field of study.
The sanctioned strength for the first academic year (2011-12) was 30 students and would be doubled in the following year. The programme covers subjects such as fibre science, yarn and fabric technology with accessories, ornaments and decoration that are covered in textile and fashion designing course. In addition it also covers boutique shop management, beauty parlour management and beauty care theory and practical laboratories, he added. Equipment worth Rs. 30 lakh has been imported for the course, Mr. Karunanidhi said.
