The office-bearers and members of the Labour Progressive Front (LPF), affiliated to the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, observed a day-long hunger strike at Neyveli on Wednesday to voice their protest against the new office timings fixed by the management of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation for the administrative staff. R.Gopalan, general secretary of the LPF, told The Hindu that effective from February 1, the NLC management had advanced the office working hours from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., with half-an-hour lunch break. The LPF had taken the stand that the revised timings had greatly inconvenienced the office staff because they were accustomed to the regular timings of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that had been in force for the past 46 years.
