Clinical diabetology programme launched by Annamalai University

CUDDALORE: 

             Tamil Nadu Governor and Chancellor Surjit Singh Barnala launched the prospectus of postgraduate diploma in clinical diabetology offered by Annamalai University through distance education mode, in Chennai recently.

               In a statement released here, Vice-Chancellor of the university M. Ramanathan said that the programme was framed in collaboration with the India Diabetes Research Foundation and the Diabetes Hospital, Chennai. The distance education programme gained special significance owing to increasing number of diabetics in the country.

WHO survey

            According to the World Health Organisation survey, the number of diabetics in India, which now stood at 50 million, would go up to 80 million by 2030. To tackle the condition, it was not only advisable to take preventive measures but also provide better understanding of the core of the condition with a seminal knowledge in combating strategies and nutritional science,the Vice-Chancellor added.

             S.B. Nageswara Rao, director, Directorate of Distance Education (Annamalai University), A.Ramachandran of Diabetes Hospital, N. Chidambaram, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Sir Rajah Muthiah Medical College (of Annamalai University), and Raghavan of India Diabetes Research Foundation were present.
