BSNL 3G services in Cuddalore, Villupuram towns

CUDDALORE: 

       Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. General Manager (Cuddalore division) T. Rajendran inaugurated 3G mobile services here on Wednesday.

          The services would enable subscribers to watch television channels on their mobile phones with utmost clarity and also offer high-speed access to Internet browsing, he told a press conference. The 3G mobile phones would also display pictures of the speakers on the other end. To start with, the new services would be available in Cuddalore and Villupuram towns. It would be extended to other areas in the division in a phased manner, Mr. Rajendran said.

            The salient features of 3G services were high-speed data and video transmission, voice calls, video calls, multimedia short messaging services, wireless data exchange, mobile television and Internet browsing. While stationary, the speed of the Internet access would be a maximum of 3.6 mega bytes per second, while travelling, 144 kilo bytes per second and while walking, 384 kbps, Mr. Rajendran said. Television viewing could be possible by sending an SMS—My3GTV to 55447 for a fee.

The fee structure had been fixed as follows: 

               for watching all 40 channels Rs. 150 a month, for a single channel for a month –Rs. 50 and for a single channel for a day – Rs. 10. Those who are presently under 2G services but having 3G compatible handsets could easily migrate to the new services by just sending an SMS-- M3G 120—to 537333 for pre-paid subscribers and M3G25 to 53733 for post-paid subscribers. Those who were under 3G services could establish communication with those under 2G services through voice calls. Mr. Rajendran said that the BSNL was also marketing 3G Huwaei handsets that came with a “bundled offer”:

                 Handset – Rs. 6,500, 3G SIM card – Rs. 59, first recharge coupon – Rs. 161, validity – 180 days, talk time – Rs. 20. The freebies that came along with it were: free talk time for Rs. 50 every month for first six months, and free video calls for 30 minutes for first six months, and 25 MB download per month for two months. For facilitating 3G services, appropriate technology would be incorporated into the existing micro towers and the new towers to be set up would adopt modern technology. Mr. Rajendran also said that 2G services would continue along with 3G services.
