CUDDALORE:
The work on reorganisation of multi-member panchayat wards into single-member wards will begin in July and end in November, according to Collector P. Seetharaman.
In a statement released here, he said 13 panchayats unions in the district comprised 681 panchayats. These local bodies had a total of 1,852 multi-member wards and it had been proposed to convert these into 4,917 single-member wards. A training programme was organised here on Friday to instruct Block Development Officers and their deputies on how to go about the task. The reorganisation measure would be discussed at special panchayat meetings to be convened in the second fortnight of every month to ascertain the views of the villagers, Mr. Seetharaman said.
