CUDDALORE:
Collector P. Seetharaman inaugurated new buildings of Dhaya, a special school, built at a cost of Rs.10 lakh here on Thursday. The State government had provided Rs.5 lakh for the construction, and the remaining mobilised through public contributions. Mr. Seetharaman said that of 28,097 differently abled persons identified in Cuddalore district, 4,408 were mentally challenged. It was a matter of concern that the number of mentally challenged happened to be the highest in the blocks of Vriddhachalam, Nallur, Mangalore and Khammapuram. A monthly maintenance allowance of Rs. 500 was being given to 2,030 mentally challenged persons.
