CUDDALORE:
The 11th State-level conference of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has urged the Tamil Nadu government to withdraw the order for appointing retired employees in existing vacancies.
In a resolution adopted on Wednesday, the CITU stated that when 62 lakh people, both men and women, were on the rolls of the employment offices for the past several years, such an order would close the employment avenues to them and cause frustration and dejection. It refuted the claim of Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi that in the past three years, 3.44 lakh jobs were created. It stated that in reality only 70,000 people were posted in permanent jobs and still there existed 2.25 lakh vacancies in various government departments. The conference extended its support to the agitation of the Democratic Youth Federation of India scheduled for Thursday to urge the government to rescind its order in this regard.
In another resolution, the CITU called for fair deal to lakhs of women employed in various sectors and formation of complaint committees in working places as directed by the Supreme Court to check sexual abuse. The CITU called upon the Centre to scrap the new pension scheme because the linking of pension funds to the volatile stock markets and government bonds would yield doubtful results and hence, make the retirement period an uncertain one.
