Section of NLC employees strike work

 CUDDALORE:

A section of the employees of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation owing allegiance to the Joint Action Council, comprising 13 trade unions, went on a day's token strike from

Wednesday night in support of their demand for speedier and proper wage revision. President of the Hind Mazdoor Sabha G. Sukumar said that the employees would abstain from work from 10 p.m. on Wednesday to 10 p.m. on Thursday. He said that it was the hope of the JAC that the NLC management and the trade unions involved in the wage talks (both the Labour Progressive Front (LPF) and the Pattali Thozhir Sangam-PTS) would amicably resolve the issue soon. However, Mr. Sukumar said that if the stalemate on payment of arrears from January 1, 2007 continues, the JAC would launch an indefinite strike originally planned. Meanwhile, the LPF and the PTS too had served a strike notice on the management. NLC sources said that the token strike would not have any impact either on electricity generation or lignite mining.
