CUDDALORE:
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadre, led by party organising secretary S. Semmalai staged, a demonstration near the bus stand at Thittakudi on Monday urging the State government to initiate measures soon to desilt the Wellington tank and revive water storage. The protestors said the tank used to cater to the irrigation needs of 25,000 acres in the ayacut areas, besides feeding ponds in the region. The State government had sanctioned Rs. 20 crore during 2007-2008 for desilting, but the work was never completed. As a result, the tank and the ponds had gone dry. This affected farmers who were unable to raise crops.
